- 1) your ISP may be blocking the traffic,
- 2) the network your computer is connected to may be blocking the traffic (e.g. military network, school, corporate, Internet cafe, etc.),
- 3) the SkyDownloader software or Java installation may be corrupt, or
- 4) your Windows (or other) firewall may be blocking the connection.
If #1 or #2 is the case, there is nothing that can be done to resolve the issue, other than contacting your ISP or network administrator to request that they allow access to the Gnutella network (TCP port 6346).
TO REINSTALL SKYDOWNLOADER AND JAVA:
To isolate the possibility that the software installation may be incomplete or corrupted, you should completely remove both applications and reinstall using the latest versions (in some cases you may just need to install the latest version to fix the problem). To uninstall the applications:
- 1) go to your Windows start menu,
- 2) look for the Control Panel option,
- 3) select (or double-click) on the Add or Remove Programs options (in Vista, look for Uninstall a Program in the Programs section),
- 4) when the list finishes populating, look for any instances of SkyDownloader and Java..., and
- 5) select each and click the Remove (or Uninstall) button.
At this time, removing other Gnutella programs such as LimeWire, Morpheus, BearShare, etc. will also be a good idea, as they tend to create conflicts. Now, go to http://www.java.com and download/install the latest version of Java, then download/install the latest version of SkyDownloader.
