I'm a new user and I'm worried about unblocking my firewall protection. Does having a firewall prevent me from downloading and does it effect the download speed of a file.

We do not recommend that you disable your firewall, rather, we suggest that you add SkyDownloader to your firewall's exception list so that it is recognized by your firewall as a safe program and is allowed access to the download network.

Specifically, you'll need to add the SkyDownloader program as an exception and you'll need to make sure that ports TCP 6346 and UDP 6346 are open on your firewall. Those are the ports used by SkyDownloader to establish a connection to the download network.
